Overwhelming Odds

Civilization has all but crumbled under the weight of its own technology. Swarms of nanite infested corpses wander the world looking for sustenance as what's left of humanity scour the ruins of what once was their world for anything to help them survive long enough for the nightmare to end.

Mankind's Struggle to Survive

Mankind detected the nanite mutation early enough to prevent total annihilation but too late to prevent its spread. Using what time and technology it had, a few high tech Settlements were constructed to preserve humanity and maintain some form of civilization. Those not fortunate enough to be invited into the safety of a settlement had to fend for themselves.
